Hebrews 10 Revisions

HCSB HCSBse
8 After He says above, You did not desire or delight in sacrifices and offerings, whole burnt offerings and sin offerings, (which are offered according to the law), 8 After He says above, You did not want or delight in sacrifices and offerings, whole burnt offerings and sin offerings (which are offered according to the law),
10 By this will, we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once and for all. 10 By this will of God, we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once and for all.
11 Now every priest stands day after day ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 11 Every priest stands day after day ministering and offering the same sacrifices time after time, which can never take away sins.
15 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. For after He had said: 15 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. For after He says:
20 by the new and living way that He has inaugurated for us, through the curtain (that is, His flesh); 20 by a new and living way He has opened for us through the curtain (that is, His flesh),
25 not staying away from our meetings, as some habitually do, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day drawing near. 25 not staying away from our worship meetings, as some habitually do, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day drawing near.
37 For in yet a very little while, the Coming One will come and not delay. 37 For yet in a very little while, the Coming One will come and delay.

Hebrews 10:10
Do we really need to add “of God” here?
Hebrews 10 in the HCSBse seems to have taken a step back for me.

Hebrews 10:25

(NKJV) “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another , and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”

(NASB) “not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.”

(ESV) “not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”

(TNIV) “not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

(NET) “not abandoning our own meetings, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and even more so because you see the day drawing near.”

(NLTse) “And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.”

(CEV) “Some people have gotten out of the habit of meeting for worship, but we must not do that. We should keep on encouraging each other, especially since you know that the day of the Lord’s coming is getting closer.”

(NCV) “You should not stay away from the church meetings, as some are doing, but you should meet together and encourage each other. Do this even more as you see the day coming.”

The main phrase under consideration here according to Thayer
1) a gathering together in one place
2) the (religious) assembly (of Christians)

According to Strong
From G1996; a complete collection; specifically a Christian meeting (for worship): – assembling (gathering) together.

There may be others, but the HCSBse and CEV stand alone in this line-up in adding “worship” to the meetings they were not to forsake. It is sad to see so many christians doing this exact same thing today. Stop Quibbling And Start Assembling! When your congregation meets, you should be there!

Hebrews 10:37

Umm, the HCSBse is missing a “not”! Is this a error only in the digital version?

Umm, the HCSBse is missing a “not”! Is this a error only in the digital version?

Is there an update on this? Is this just a typo in the electronic version?….. I truly hope so…..

    Hi Dan,

This seems to be a typo in the electronic version. Now the question is, how many more exist.

  • 3. Dan  |  April 23, 2009 at 11:03 pm

True… is there a way to make them aware of that?

Dan, they do know about this now. How soon a revised digital copy will come out I don’t know.

What I do know, is if the printed copy comes out with this I’m going need to do a little complaining 🙂

I know there are a ton of questions about this but figure I’d ask anyway…

I have a pocket companion HCSB right now… I have heard a lot of talk about a Study bible coming out in September with the 2nd edition, but no one seems to know anything about other types of bibles…. I would love a 2nd edition pocket size soon!

    Do you know anything?

Here is a HCSB Second Edition Interview that you may find interesting, just in case you had not seen it before.
