1 Timothy 6 Revisions

2 And those who have believing masters should not be disrespectful to them because they are brothers, but should serve them better, since those who benefit from their service are believers and dearly loved. 1 Timothy 6:19

(ESV) “thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.”

(TNIV) “In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.”

(NLT) “By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life.”

(NET) “In this way they will save up a treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the future and so lay hold of what is truly life.”

Strong Definition:

From a derivative of G5087; something put down, that is, a substruction (of a building, etc.), (literally or figuratively): – foundation.

Thayer Definition:

1) laid down as a foundation, the foundation (of a building, wall, city)

2) metaphorically the foundations, beginnings, first principals

2a) of institution or system of truth

I’m not sure what caused the great need to change “foundation” to “reserve”. Also no mention of “treasure” in the HCSB. The HCSBse pretty much stands alone in its rendering. So what was so wrong with foundation is what I would like to know?

Update: I just did a quick check in the HCSBse and everywhere this same word is used we have “foundation” or “foundations” rendered.
