1 Timothy 1 Revisions

(ESV) “As I urged you when I was going to Macedonia, remain at Ephesus so that you may charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine,”

(TNIV) “As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain persons not to teach false doctrines any longer”

(NLT) “When I left for Macedonia, I urged you to stay there in Ephesus and stop those whose teaching is contrary to the truth.”

(NET) “As I urged you when I was leaving for Macedonia, stay on in Ephesus to instruct certain people not to spread false teachings,”

NET Note: This word implies authoritative instruction: “direct, command, give orders”

1 Timothy 1:16
(ESV) “But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life.”

(TNIV) “But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life.”

(NLT) “But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in him and receive eternal life.”
